Michael Carroll interviewed in dispute over Kakaako streets

BLRH Partner Michael Carroll appeared on Hawaii News Now on Nov. 28 in a story over the disputed ownership of streets in Honolulu’s thriving Kakaako area. Carroll is lead counsel for several small businesses who have claims against a landowner who claims to own the major streets in the area.

“The majority of the streets are in disrepair,” said Carroll. “They are riddled with potholes. There are safety issues.” Area businesses also dispute the recent attempted imposition of parking fees on public streets, which include Queen Street, Kawaihao Street, and Cummins Street.

“These parking signs impede business,” said Carroll, “In many cases for small businesses who have been operating for years.” The attorney is seeking to establish that the roads have been dedicated to the public and a private company does not have the ability to charge for parking in the area in a case that may go to trial in January.
