Overview

Crystal Rose is one of the founding members of Lung Rose Voss Wagnild and a leading figure in Hawaii’s legal community. Renowned for her creative and effective litigation strategies, Ms. Rose has spent over three decades shaping Hawaii’s business landscape through her expertise in business litigation, real estate, construction, trusts, and commercial transactions.

Ms. Rose’s notable cases include defending Kamehameha Schools’ admissions policy, representing Queen’s Medical Center in a complex dispute with Kaiser Permanente, and leading Central Pacific Bank through Hawaii’s first major banking takeover litigation in over a decade. She also represented Xerox Corp. and its managers in lawsuits arising from the 1999 workplace tragedy involving Byron Uyesugi.

In addition to her legal practice, Ms. Rose has significant experience in corporate governance, serving on the boards of prominent organizations such as Central Pacific Bank, Hawaiian Airlines, and Hawaiian Electric Company. A passionate advocate for her community, she is actively involved with various nonprofit organizations, including The Nature Conservancy, Blue Planet Foundation, and Child and Family Services.

Ms. Rose is a graduate of the Hastings College of Law, University of California, and Kamehameha Schools. Since 1987, she has been a partner at Lung Rose Voss Wagnild.

Experience

Real Estate, Business, and Major Tort Litigation

  • Represented Queen’s Medical Center in a commercial dispute with Kaiser Permanente over alleged fraudulent billing practices.
  • Defended Kamehameha Schools’ admissions policy, successfully resolving the case at the U.S. District Court level and protecting the policy’s mission.
  • Represented Central Pacific Bank in its successful takeover of City Bank in 2004.
  • Litigated land disputes on behalf of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, securing land title rights and evicting opposing claimants.

Trusts and Estates Litigation

  • Advocated for Kamehameha Schools Trustee Oswald Stender in litigation that reformed the governance of the Schools.
  • Represented Trustees of the Don Ho Trust in contentious litigation, winning on all issues through arbitration.

Construction Litigation

  • Defended Gentry Homes in class-action litigation involving alleged construction defects and termite problems, successfully resolving all cases.
  • Represented a prominent businessman in a construction fraud dispute, securing $1.4 million in arbitration damages.

  • Kamehameha Schools: Represented in multiple cases, including litigation reforming governance and defending admissions policy.
  • Queen’s Medical Center: Defended in a complex dispute with Kaiser Permanente.
  • Central Pacific Bank: Led litigation for its landmark acquisition of City Bank.
