Overview

Cayli R. Hirata is an associate in the firm’s litigation department. Her areas of practice include business, construction, real estate, land use, employment, and complex commercial litigation.

Ms. Hirata graduated from the William S. Richardson School of Law, University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa, where she received the CALI Excellence for the Future Awards in Contract Drafting and was the recipient of several scholarships, including the Wallace S. Fujiyama Memorial Scholarship and the William S. Richardson School of Law Merit Scholarship.

During law school, Ms. Hirata served as the Co-Managing Editor of the University of Hawaii Law Review and as a member of the Law Review Publishing Committee. She also served as a judicial extern to the Honorable Sabrina S. McKenna, Acting Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Hawaii.

Prior to joining LRVW as a full-time associate, Ms. Hirata was a summer associate with the firm in 2021 and 2022.

Experience

  • Effectively represented a major real estate developer in the defense of multiple construction defect lawsuits involving tract housing developments and condominium projects brought by homeowners and homeowners’ associations.
  • Secured a favorable settlement for the plaintiff in a bad-faith insurance coverage dispute arising from an insurer’s wrongful denial of coverage.
  • Obtained favorable outcomes for attorney-clients in complex litigation matters, including securing a favorable settlement in a trust and estates dispute and obtaining an early dismissal with prejudice of claims alleging civil conspiracy, fraud, and gross negligence.
